Welcome

We're so glad you're here.

True Connections Speech Therapy is an SLP-owned private practice bringing play-based speech, language, and feeding support to families across San Diego. We come to you, working with your child at home or daycare, right in the routines and places where they're most comfortable.

We help children say first words, build sentences, connect with the people around them, find alternative ways to communicate, try new foods, and feel understood. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to figure it out alone. We'll help you understand what your child needs and walk with you from there.

Our Core Values

At True Connections, we believe...

Our work draws on DIR/Floortime, Ayres Sensory Integration, and child-led, play-based approaches, always individualized to your child.

Anna Wheatley, M.S., CCC-SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist & Founder

Anna founded True Connections to deliver the kind of early communication support she loves most: therapy that happens where children actually live, play, and grow. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of St. Augustine.

She has supported children from infancy through high school across home, school, and clinic settings, with particular depth in early intervention. Every family she works with gets the same things: honest guidance, genuine warmth, and a therapist who truly enjoys spending time with their child.

My goal is to meet children where they are, build trust, and help new skills grow in a way that feels natural. That's when communication truly lasts.

Common Questions

Questions from parents

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

Trust your instincts. Parents are usually the first to notice small differences in how their child communicates, eats, or connects. If something feels off, or your pediatrician or daycare has raised a concern, an evaluation is a low-pressure way to get clarity.

Reaching out early can make a meaningful difference, and there's no downside to asking. We're happy to talk through what you're noticing before you commit to anything.

What does a session actually look like?

Sessions will look like play, because play is how children learn best. But it's play with purpose: we embed therapy goals into activities your child finds motivating, so they're building real skills without ever realizing they're "working".

Sessions also involve you. Parents are a valued and important part of the therapy team, and parent education and coaching happen in most sessions so you feel equipped to support your child between visits and beyond.

Do you work with San Diego Regional Center families?

Yes. We're a vendored provider with San Diego Regional Center, and services for eligible families come at no cost to you. If your child has a service coordinator, ask them about a referral to True Connections.

Not sure whether your child qualifies? Children under 3 with developmental delays may be eligible for Early Start, and we're glad to point you in the right direction.

Do you take insurance or private pay?

We accept select insurance plans, and our network is growing. Reach out with your plan details and we'll verify your coverage before your first visit. Private-pay evaluations and therapy are also available with simple, transparent pricing.

What ages do you work with?

We support children from infancy through the school years, with our deepest specialty in Early Intervention, ages 0 to 3. Whatever your child's age, care is individualized to their development, interests, and needs.

Where do sessions happen?

In your home or your child's daycare, across central and coastal San Diego: Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Clairemont, Mission Valley, Downtown, North Park, South Park, La Mesa, and surrounding neighborhoods. Don't see yours? Reach out, since we add new areas as our caseload grows.

Are you a neurodiversity-affirming practice?

Yes. Our goal is never to change who your child is. We support their ability to communicate, connect, and advocate for themselves in ways that feel authentic to them. Every child communicates differently, and we respect and honor those differences, building on strengths rather than working against a child's nature.
